2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo release date, specs news: Wagon variant confirmed for Geneva Motor Show this March

The Porsche Panamera four-door luxury sedan will be getting a new sibling this year. The German automobile manufacturer has announced it is expanding the lineup with the addition of a shooting brake or station wagon model, which will be unveiled at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show this March.

Dr. Stefan Utsch, director of sales and marketing for the Panamera, recently told Car magazine that the five-door shooting brake model will have "a very sharp design. I think we will offer the first bodystyle in this segment, with even higher usability."

Porsche has not confirmed the name of the Panamera wagon but it is being called the Sport Turismo for the time being, especially since the upcoming vehicle is based on the concept study that was introduced at the Paris Motor Show back in 2012. The concept vehicle received a positive response from car enthusiasts so a lot of people are highly anticipating the upcoming production version.

The publication revealed that the 2018 Panamera Sport Turismo will feature a raised roofline, an estate-style tailgate and Porsche's now iconic rear light bar. This has seemingly been confirmed by spy shots that were taken in early 2016.

The 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is also expected to feature the same powertrains that are offered in the four-door luxury sedan variant. Utsch also hinted that an electric version of the Panamera could be launched at a later date.

The Panamera Sport Turismo is said to be designed specifically for the European market but there's a possibility that the wagon will be offered in the United States as well. More details will likely be revealed during the Geneva Motor Show, to be held from March 9 to 19.

The 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo is scheduled to go on sale in late 2017.
