Apple iPad mini 5 release date expected in September; rumored to feature 3D Touch, iOS 10

Apple has unveiled a few new products for 2016 already. But what's missing in action until now is the iPad mini 5, the fifth generation in the iPad mini line. Fans have been waiting for the successor of the iPad mini 4. However, details about its release are still scarce. There are rumors though suggesting that the device will be out sometime this year.

Following the announcement history of Apple, the iPad mini 5 is expected this year again as the tech giant has been releasing a new iPad mini model every year since 2012. And if reports are correct, the latest one may be out in September just like the time frame of release of the iPad mini 4 last year.

Apple is said to hold a launch event this coming September but it is not announced yet what products will be unveiled. Those who are interested to pick up the mini tablet will have to stay tuned for updates regarding the actual release date.

As for the specs and features, rumors have it that the upcoming device will still be sporting the same familiar look. It's also said to have the same 7.9-inch retina display that the predecessor has. The difference though is that it will feature a 7,000-series aluminum chassis, making it more durable. The device is also tipped to be thinner than the iPad mini 4 by just 5mm thick.

Other purported features include a 3D Touch just like the ones incorporated into the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus and the brand's posh new stylus. It may also be added with IP68 protection, allowing it to be waterproof. If it will be pushed through, the iPad mini 5 will be the first waterproof Apple device.

The device is also speculated to be pre-installed with the new iOS 10. The latest operating system will be released on the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus so it's also most likely that the new iPad mini will be getting it.
