The clip showed how Callum was being held against his will by Dr. Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) and his people. Dr. Sophi Rikkin and her assistants had Callum trapped within the claw-like arms of the Animus.

Fans of the video game series are, without a doubt, familiar of the term Animus. But for the sake of those who don't, the Animus is a particular machine that allows people to access hundreds of years' worth of memories from ancient ancestors. In the trailer, Dr. Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) was telling Callum, "What you are about to see, hear, and feel are the memories of someone who has been dead for 500 years."

Although the Animus, in the games, are simple reclining chairs that do all the work, the movie adaptation features a highly advanced machine that even suspended the Callum in the air as he was about to enter Animus.

For the uninitiated, "Assassin's Creed," follows the life of Callum, the death row inmate who was basically forced into entering Animus. He was forced to relive the memories of his ancestor Aguilar from 15th-century Spain. Soon after he enters Animus, he learns that he is a descendant of a secret society that brands themselves as Assassins. Upon learning this knew information, he becomes involved and sucked into the centuries-long war between the secret society which he belongs in and the Templars.

The upcoming "Assassin's Creed" by 20th Century Fox is directed by Justin Kurzel, who also directed "Macbeth," which featured Fassbender. Aside from the aforementioned actors, the film adaptation is expected to feature Brendan Gleeson, and Jeremy Irons.

"Assassin's Creed" will hit the big screen on Dec. 21.
