Last year is the year of the ZenFone 3 as it performed well in the market. This may have paved the way to the arrival of the ZenFone 4, which is expected in May.

It will be just a couple of months before the world sees another ZenFone that would impress the already impressed market. The launching of the ZenFone devices, which include the ZenFone 3 Zoom, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Laser, has been a success and so the Taiwanese company is apparently rooting for the ZenFone 4 when it arrives.

According to DigiTimes, the insiders from Asus' supply chain have claimed that the Zenfone 4 series will be out in May. Asustek Computer is reportedly planning to release the upcoming lines in the said month and will be shipping to more than 20 million units this year.

The upcoming smartphone line will have improved specs than the current models and will have higher ASPs, claimed the sources.

It was last year when Asus shipped approximately 17.5 million units of ZenFone series in 2016, which is a decrease of 14.6 percent from the year earlier. It was in 2015 when about 20.5 million ZenFone units were released, the sources add.

ZenFone 4 is expected to be a thinner version of ZenFone 3. The recently released ZenFone AR apparently gave clues as to what specs the imminent series will offer. For those curious, the ZenFone AR is the premium version of ZenFone 3 series with 8 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and a Snapdragon 821 processor.

The anticipated next-generation ZenFone is believed to have similar specs as the AR model. ZenFone AR has 5.7-inch active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) screen, coupled with 2,560 x 1,440-pixel resolution, which the ZenFone 4 may also have.

It is also believed to have a powerful 4,850-milliampere hour (mAh) battery, based on TENAA, a regulatory body in Taiwan.
