'Grimm' season 6 spoilers, air date, cancellation updates: Spin-off series being pushed? Other networks keen on saving show for season 7?

"Grimm" season 6 isn't set to premiere until January 2017, but fans are already dreading the day, as the upcoming installment has been confirmed as the last one for the series.

Earlier spoilers for the show teased that the upcoming season will pick up right where season 5 left off, which means Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) will be trying his best to save the mother of his child, Adalind Schade (Claire Coffee), from the clutches of Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz). Even the origin and history of the magical healing stick will be explored in season 6.

However, even before a definite air date was released for "Grimm" season 6, NBC already announced that it will be serving as the show's swan song. The news shocked fans of the series, so much so that an online petition was started in an effort to save the show or at least make other networks take notice and pick up the series instead.

At the last count, the online petition, which has set 13,000 sign-ups as its goal has already garnered 12,249 supporters. While there's no guarantee that NBC will suddenly have a change of heart after seeing the overwhelming results of the petition, it might be enough to make other networks such as TNT, CBS, or Freeform take notice.

There are reports that producers of "Grimm" are constantly meeting with NBC and negotiations are underway to discuss the fate of the series. Apparently, they will have to wait and see how season 6 will fare, ratings-wise before a final decision is made.

In related news, there are rumors that "Grimm's" showrunners are batting for a spin-off series that will feature the story of Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) should the series not get the green light for season 7. Series creator David Greenwalt have expressed his feelings regarding a Trubel spin-off as early as the San Diego Comic-Con in July. When asked about it, he answered in the affirmative and said, "We felt that when we created her."

"Grimm" season 6 is set to premiere on Jan. 6, 2017. Meanwhile, keep coming back for more updates and news about the series.
