Indiana Jones New Movie Cast News: Disney Could Make 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Star Chris Pratt The New Indiana Jones
After Disney got hold of the rights to Indiana Jones' character from Paramount in 2013, the company has set its eyes at the next actor who can best fill in the shoes left by Harrison Ford – Chris Pratt, the lead actor of the "Guardians of the Galaxy," Deadline has reported.
Disney is looking to rebuild the franchise around Pratt, who played Peter Quill a.k.a. Star Lord in the last year's blockbuster Marvel movie.
This time, Pratt will play an archaeologist made famous by Ford in "Raiders of the Lost Ark."
Entertainment Weekly said having Chris Pratt is perfect for the role because he has character that is absent in other actors his age.
"Pratt has character, something a lot of equivalently aged action dudes seem to lack – (cough, cough Sam Worthington; cough, cough Jai Courtney)," the Weekly review said. "That would go a long way to making a new Indiana Jones a more attractive prospect—especially considering that a Disney Jones would probably feature no Spielberg, no Lucas, no Ford, or any of the creative people who made one great Indiana Jones movie, one good Indiana Jones movie, one weird Indiana Jones movie, and one ungodly terrible Indiana Jones movie," the review added.
At the same time, the online entertainment news source pointed out why having Pratt for the role of Indiana Jones is a bad idea: believability.
"You could frontload the argument by pointing out that part of Pratt's charm is rooted in his character's simplicity. But Indiana Jones is an archaeologist and a college professor: You completely believe it when Ford puts on his nerd-glasses, and there is something enthralling about listening to his Indiana Jones spout historical-mythic exposition," it said.
Disney, however, would not comment yet on the matter, considering that it is too early to do so.
Pratt has been in early talks last month to join Denzel Washington in the remake of the "Magnificent Seven," which will be directed by Antoine Fuqua.
