After Apple released a number of hit devices in 2014 such as the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, speculation is mounting on what devices the U.S. tech giant will unveil in 2015. As the new year started, news has come that Apple may release a mini version of the iPhone 6 named the "iPhone 6 Mini" to attract users who prefer a smartphone with a smaller screen.

While rumors of an iPhone 6 Mini are welcome on some fronts, analysts say Apple does not have a good track record when it comes to designing cheap phones. Before the launch of the cheaper iPhone 5C, many had predicted that there would be a massive demand for it if it was priced right. They said it would even help the company gain new customers in developing countries. However, the model did not do well as expected, which led Apple to concentrate on increasing the screen sizes of its smartphone lineup, leading to creation of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Since the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus last September, the demand for the devices remain high and has consequently resulted in massive sales figures. However, rumors about the iPhone 6 Mini seem to be driven by the fact that many Apple customers still prefer a smaller sized phone with a display measuring four inches.

Forbes states that while creating a budget smartphone such as the iPhone 6 Mini may seem attractive it is unlikely that Apple will continue developing smaller phones after the release of the bigger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Instead the company may just release the iPhone 6 Mini along with its first smartwatch, the Apple Watch, which is due for release sometime in the early part of 2015. If the company does go ahead with releasing them together, it could mean that it is hoping consumers will buy both and pair them.
