iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus Comparison: Specs, Price and Features Review - Bigger Is Not Necessarily Better

The iPhone 6 (L) and the iPhone 6 Plus (R). | APPLE

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released simultaneously by Apple last September and since then they have become bestsellers, helping the company record it biggest profits since its inception. A comparison between the devices shows that while the smaller iPhone 6 might be easier to use with one hand, its bigger sibling has a superior camera. However, that does not make it better.

Design

Both devices are similar when it comes to features and they both come with premium aluminum unibody frames, beautifully rounded edges and smooth back panels. However, the smoothness of the bigger iPhone 6 Plus becomes a major disadvantage as it cannot be held well and can easily slip from one's hand. Also, its back panel does not have the slight curve that is present on great phablets like the Nexus 6 and the Galaxy Note 4.

Display

The iPhone 6 Plus is a true phablet and has a IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401pixels per inch. As for the iPhone 6, it has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch.

Platform

Both the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 have Apple A8 chipsets, coupled with dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone CPUs that are ARM v8-based and PowerVR GX6450 GPUs . They also come with the latest iOS 8 operating system which can be upgraded to iOS 8.1.3.

Memory

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both do not have a memory card slot. As for RAM, both have 1 GB versions.

Camera

Both devices have 8 megapixel camera versions at their rear, but the iPhone 6 Plus comes with optical image stabilization which the smaller iPhone 6 does not have.

Price

The 16 GB iPhone 6 is priced at $199 with a two-year contract while a 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus costs $299 with a similar contract.
