Considering Apple's previous releases of its iPhones, then iPhone 7 will most probably be released in mid-September 2015.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 7 will be a phablet, based on the iPhone 6 Plus, and with a 5.5-inch screen.

Here are the other rumored specs of Apple's upcoming smartphone:

■ 3D Display – There are claims that Apple supply chain partner TPK is working on a project that relates to "naked eye 3D screen," meaning a 3D screen that people won't need glasses to see.

■ Two-lens system Camera – Sources claim that the iPhone 7's camera will be a significant improvement over the cameras found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Daring Fireball's John Gruber reported in a podcast on his blog that the iPhone 7's camera will have a two-lens system that would allow for "DSLR-quality imagery." Although already critically acclaimed, the iPhone camera setup will have further significant improvement with the dual-lens design, including the option to add an optical zoom. Some rumors say that the future iPhone camera will perform better in low light conditions.

■ Processor – The iPhone 7 is rumored to have Apple's A9 processor for the next generation of smartphones. The processors are expected to be manufactured using a 14-nanometer design. They would be smaller, more efficient and more powerful. It is rumored that Samsung is vying to become the sole manufacturer of Apple's chips. Some industry insiders believe that Apple will be able to design its own A9 chip, as it has done for other A-class processors in the past.

■ Home Button Joystick – One of the newest rumors is that the iPhone 7's home button would be able to "pop-up" and turn into a mini-joystick for playing games. This is considered as a very "out-there" idea, which may not click since not all iPhone users are gamers and the home button has been prone to breakage in the past. However, this has actually been patented by Apple, so it just might happen.

■ Force Technology – This is the touch-sensitive display technology that Apple is using in its Apple Watch, which enables a device to differentiate between a tap and a press.

■ Wireless Charging – This has been introduced to the Apple Watch as inductive charging – not really "wireless charging" per se. Inductive charging has a very short range.

■ Others – There are rumors of a new charger, iOS 9 improvements at software level, the phone having TouchID, and the use of Sapphire glass. A lot of these rumors are backed by a review of existing Apple patents. Whether any or all of the above rumors would become a reality, we can only confirm when the iPhone 7 is released.

Based on intelligent speculations, that would be in mid-September 2015.
