'Kingsman: The Golden Circle' release date, news: Movie gets delayed to fall 2017

Still of Colin Firth as Harry Hart in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" | Youtube/20th Century Fox

Back in 2015, Matthew Vaughn's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" was a surprise hit. A sequel for the movie, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," is already in the works. The movie was originally intended to be released in the summer of 2017, but it has reportedly been delayed to the fall of the same year.

According to BoxOffice on Twitter, Fox decided to move "Kingsman 2's" original premiere date from June 16 to Oct. 6. Aside from that, Fox also chose to push forward the date of another highly anticipated blockbuster, "Alien: Covenant," from August to May.

The new release date for "Kingsman" means that it will be going up against movies like the "Blade Runner" sequel, "Blade Runner 2049," and the "My Little Pony" movie. Should it be released in the summer, the movie would have contested in the box office with Marvel Studios "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, "Dead Men Tell No Tales."

According to reports, the sequel will see British Kingsmen Eggsy (Taron Egerton), Roxy (Sophie Cookson), and Merlin (Mark Strong) in the United States to meet up with their U.S. counterparts, the Statesmen. Jeff Bridges is said to play the head of the Statesmen. Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal will be playing agents. The main antagonist will be a character named Poppy and she will be played by Julianne Moore.

The movie will also reportedly see the return of Colin Firth as Eggsy's mentor, Harry Hart. This can be confusing for some since the first movie had Harry die in the hands of Samuel L. Jackson's Valentine. A teaser poster for the movie, however, has a quote that reads, "Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated," with the assumption that these words are for Harry.

"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is set for release on Oct. 6, 2017.
