The upcoming "Lara Croft" reboot is an origin story that will see Lara Croft, this time played by Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander, searching for her father.

In a recent chat with HeyUGuys, "Tomb Raider" producer Graham King spoke about the upcoming reboot's narrative and confirmed that it will be a "back to the roots" story. In contrast, the first two "Lara Croft" films, 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and 2003's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life," had the titular protagonist looking for ancient artifacts or lost kingdoms. Both films starred Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie as Croft.

"This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it," King told the outlet. "I think the storytelling is really good and I think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this," he added.

The reboot, which will be produced by MGM and Warner Bros., was announced earlier this year. It was also confirmed that Vikander, whose star is currently on the rise, will take over Jolie in the iconic role of Croft.

Prior to her casting in the "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" reboot, Vikander starred in the films "Jason Bourne" (2016), "Ex Machina" (2015), and "The Light Between Oceans" (2016). She received an Oscar for her role as the painter Gerda Wegener in the 2015 film "The Danish Girl."

Earlier this year, Vikander spoke to Collider about the "Lara Croft" reboot and said that what she likes about it is that it is an origin story. "You're following this girl who, on her way to becoming what we all know her for, Tomb Raider, Lara Croft," she said.

The "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" reboot is slated for a March 16, 2018 release.
