The new Lucifer on The CW's "Supernatural" season 12 will be played by actor and musician Rick Springfield, as per the show's official announcement at Comic-Con last week.

Andrew Dabb, one of the series' executive producers present at the event, pointed out that they wanted to feature a bona fide rock star who had the ability to act and play the role of Vince Vicente.

"If you've seen 'Ricki and The Flash' or 'True Detective' recently, he's really great," the EP told fans at the event.

Springfield, who used to be an opera star besides being in the rock music scene in the 1980s, is presently making a comeback.

In the previous season, viewers saw that Satan had taken over Castiel's (Misha Collins) body, and in the upcoming "Supernatural" season 12, fans will find that Lucifer shall be picking out other new vessels to try and possess.

Robert Singer, "Supernatural" co-creator who sat at the panel, declared on TVLIne, "The first vessel that [Lucifer] feels comfortable with is a rock star who's a little bit on the down side who's trying to come back."

Singer was referring to Springfield's character in the upcoming installment.

Another interesting development which the new season will take up is the offshoot of what happened to Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) after he was attacked and presumed dead in the season 11 finale. The perpetrators of the attack are the British Men of Letters, a group which Sam's and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) father had been a member of.

According to Enstarz, Padalecki said that the group may be mistaken about what they believe they know about the brothers. He does not consider them legitimate members of the group despite being legacies. He said that the group will try to find out whether both are lying and if the siblings are not what they seem to be. The way the British Men of Letters are approaching the matter though may leave a lot to be desired by the Winchesters, since the brothers are not really used to having someone to answer to.

For this reason, Padalecki predicts some sparks will fly in "Supernatural" season 12 when it premieres Oct. 13.
