'American Horror Story' season 6 release date news update: New TV spots, but they are not what they seem

FX has released a bunch of new TV spots for the sixth season of "American Horror Story," but the trailers are not what they seem. As a creative way to market the upcoming season, each trailer has a distinct theme and only one of them shows the real theme of season 6. However, this will remain a mystery until FX decides to reveal it.
According to Geek Tyrant, FX Chief Executive Officer John Landgraf talked more about the marketing for this year's season. He says: "They made many more trailers than you've actually seen for hypothetical seasons of 'American Horror Story,' different genres. They're really fun and funny and artfully made. One of them is accurate. The others are all misdirects. We're just having fun with it. All I can say is there is a theme, a setting, a place and time but we're not going to reveal it."
He said this during the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour. Apparently, the decision to have the misleading trailers was decided upon by Landgraf, creator Ryan Murphy, and Head of Marketing Stephanie Gibbons. The team thought that it would be fun to keep the current season's theme a mystery, as opposed to announcing the theme beforehand, similar to what they did with the past five seasons.
"American Horror Story" is a unique anthology series which showcases a different theme and a different location setting for each season. Previous seasons had been set in an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show, and a murderous haunted house.
Each season also sees the return of series regulars who play different roles per season. Among the regulars are Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Denis O'Hare, and Kathy Bates.
"American Horror Story" returns this Sept. 14 on FX.
