'Assassin's Creed' featurette focuses on the 'Leap of Faith' stunt

Not everyone may be a fan of the game "Assassin's Creed," but after seeing the trailer for the live-action movie, more and more people are getting interested in the franchise. One of the most jaw-dropping sequences in the trailer was when Michael Fassbender's character jumps off of a tower more than a hundred feet high. A new featurette on the movie focuses on the making of that stunt — dubbed "The Leap of Faith" — and it turns out that they had to drop a stuntman over 125 ft. in real life.
According to the video, it's one of the highest free falls every to be recorded on camera and one of the highest free falls performed by a stuntman in almost 35 years. The stuntman, Damien Walters, had to jump from a 125 feet platform into a 10x10 meter inflatable pad. They started the jump off at 70 ft. Then they tried jumping off 90 ft until he was eventually able to jump the required height of 125 feet. Luckily, no hiccups were reported, and Walters walked out of the landing pad without a scratch.
Patrick Crowley, the producer for "Assassin's Creed," said that this stunt was originally supposed to have a computer-generated dummy used, but since the production had enough faith on Walters, they eventually decided to have him perform the stunt. The only CGI that fans will expect from the stunt in the movie will be the period setting of the Spanish Inquisition.
The scene will take place in the movie as Fassbender's character Aguilar tries to make a daring escape. The game has risen in popularity with its parkour elements and death-defying jumps, so it's only natural that the movie will pay respects to the source-material. There is no news, however, whether Aguilar will use a cart of hay to break his fall in the movie.
"Assassin's Creed" is expected to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
