'Australian Survivor' first look episode one released; includes 24 players and 55 days in season

"Australian Survivor" is all geared up to debut soon on Australia's Channel 10. To get the hype up among fans who have been waiting for it, the show released its first look video for episode one.
The reality show will be set on a remote island in the Independent State of Samoa and will be hosted by actor Jonathan LaPaglia. It will feature a total of 24 castaways who will fight to be the last man or woman standing. As detailed in a report by B&T, the players will be divided into three tribes, which means each group will have eight members.
This version of the show will also have longer days in this season. There will be 55 days, all in all, making it like a full season of old-school CBS "Big Brother." But considering the number of players and episodes, it only makes sense.
The 24 Aussies who have taken on the challenge to be the lone survivor vary in backgrounds and stories. Some are even professional workers, like a teacher, a lawyer and a firefighter. In the 6-minute first look episode, it introduced some of the cast members who shared a little back story about themselves.
There's the 23-year old law student Conner who claimed to be a big fan of the franchise and calls it as the "modern-day 'Hunger Games.'" There's also 33-year old army corporal El who is from Queensland. She said that her being part of the third generation Army gives her an edge in the game.
"I'm third generation Army. It's the core of who I am. Being in the army, you are surrounded by heroes and by people that are always stepping out of their comfort zones," El said.
There's also former professional cricketer Lee, 40, from Queensland, who explained that playing the game should not necessarily mean that it involves cheating and backstabbing. He believes that none of those kinds of tricks are necessary to win a game.
"Australian Survivor" will premiere on Sunday, Aug. 21, on Network Ten.
