'Battlefield 1' update: Access beta codes sent; Xbox Live Gold required

The upcoming first-person shooter video game, "Battlefield 1," is slated to be released soon. And to bring up the hype and let gamers have a sneak peek of what's to come, developer EA DICE and Electronic Arts will enter an open beta phase.
Reports say that the open beta will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 31. It will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Those who have signed up to receive the "Battlefield" newsletters should check out their emails as EA already sent out the codes for the beta.
Each sign up will get a single code, depending on the platform preference that one picked upon registering. It's noted that the download is around 7.10 GB for PC users. PS4 and Xbox One users will be relieved to know that the size for the console is a bit smaller. It's now available for download, but it won't be playable until it goes live.
For PS4 players, it's announced that PlayStation Plus subscription is not necessary. However, Xbox gamers will be required to have Xbox Live Gold for multiplayer to join the open beta. There is no word yet on when the beta will end, so those who will be playing will have to stay tuned for that piece of information.
As to what will be included in the beta, the game will reportedly feature the Sinai Desert, a map that features 64-player Conquest mode as well as 24-player Rush games. Those who attended Gamescom 2016 may already be familiar with the desert map as it was part of EA's "Battlefield 1" presentation.
The map includes the battle between the Allied Forces and the Ottoman Empire. It features various weapons as well as modes of transportation and elements. There is also the addition of 30 different firearms, bi-planes, tanks, armored trains and horseback cavalry.
"Battlefield 1" will be released on Oct. 21 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
