'Blade Runner 2' release date, cast news: Adds Jared Leto to its cast list

Jared Leto, who has just come out with his frustration from the release of "Suicide Squad," has been cast in the sequel to Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner." The story of "Blade Runner 2" will be set decades after the original, and will come out October of next year.
According to Variety, Leto's role in the movie has been kept under wraps, but some fans guess that he will be playing some kind of replicant (humanoid robots in the "Blade Runner" lore). He will be joining a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista.
Leto has been recently delving out his frustrations on the theatrical cut of "Suicide Squad." It was said that he had poured so much time into playing his character of the Joker — even causing controversy within the set — and having most of his scenes cut from the film have apparently pissed off the actor. Hopefully getting cast in this classic franchise will relieve some of Leto's irritation.
Ridley Scott, who directed the first "Blade Runner" is signed onto the film as executive producer. The film will instead be directed by "Sicario" helmer Denis Villeneuve, and he will be bringing on cinematographer Roger Deakins.
The film will be written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and the story is said to be set a few decades after the original movie's time setting. The first "Blade Runner" was written by Fancher and David Peoples, who based it on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Phillip K. Dick.
Alcon Entertainment gained rights to the "Blade Runner" franchise back in 2011, and it looks like fans will be seeing more "Blade Runner" films in the coming future.
The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. domestically, and Sony will handle the international side of the distribution.
"Blade Runner 2" is set to come out on Oct. 6, 2017.
