More than a year after exiting the recently concluded CBS legal/political drama "The Good Wife," Archie Panjabi is taking on her next major network TV role in the upcoming second season of NBC's crime drama "Blindspot."

According to TVLine, Panjabi is set to play a major recurring role in "Blindspot" season 2. While her character's name has not been revealed, TVLine reports that the Emmy winner will play the head of a covert NSA division that has been keeping tabs on the Jane Doe case from afar.

Since exiting "The Good Wife," Panjabi has been working on a stream of British television shows, including "Shetland," "The Fall," and "Power Monkeys." She also appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson in the 2015 disaster film "San Andreas."

While NBC has yet to reveal the specifics of Panjabi's character, TV Guide suggests that the actress could be playing the mysterious Shepherd, the leader of Oscar's (Francois Arnaud) group.

While the character was only mentioned at the end of the show's freshman season, he or she is supposedly the one behind Jane and Oscar's memory-erasing plan. The mysterious Shepherd has only appeared in shadows in Jane's (Jaimie Alexander) flashbacks.

In an interview with TV Guide in May, "Blindspot" creator Martin Gero said that Shepherd will play a very important role in the next season and that the character is not someone viewers have already seen.

"You're going to find out who Shepherd is and what Orion is in the first episode of Season 2," he said. "Shepherd is vastly important in Season 2."

The season 1 finale of "Blindspot" ended with Oscars's death and Jane ending up in handcuffs after Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) learned that she was not Taylor Shaw. It is unclear if Panjabi's character will be Jane's friend or enemy.

In the interview, Gero also said that fans will be seeing an entirely different Jane in the show's sophomore season, saying, "The great thing now is that it's all on the table."

"Everybody knows everything now," he explained. "And so, this kind of subterfuge that was happening between our leads is just not sustainable anymore. So, whether they like it or not, they're going to have to start to work together as a team."

"Blindspot" season 2 debuts Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC before moving to its new regular timeslot on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m. ET.
