It has been a while since a new entry from the "Darksiders" franchise has been released and there is a possibility that a sequel may be on its way. "Darksiders 2" has been reintroduced to the gaming community with its remastered edition and this may pave the way for its next installment.

It was mentioned in the reports of Gamespot that Nordic Games which is a publisher from Sweden has previously obtained the rights of "Darksiders" from THQ. The reason why THQ was willing to let go one of their properties is due to the bankruptcy of the company. Moreover, Nordic Games already has plans for the franchise of "Darksiders" and the "Darksiders 2" remastered edition is just the beginning.

The executive producer of Nordic Games has recently participated in a Steam discussion board regarding the "Darksiders 2: Definitive Edition." He mentioned in his post, "Since we acquired the franchise we were looking for options for doing a Darksiders 3. The remaster was just a way to get some spotlight on the franchise again, reactivate the community and have a better starting position for Darksiders 3."

Nordic Games has also mentioned before that they are actually planning to release the first installment of the franchise in the current generation of consoles. The game publisher also wants the game to be in a higher setting like 1080p resolution. This may possibly be done while "Darksiders 3" is being developed in order to increase the hype of the game.

They also stated in a statement, "Naturally (and extremely excitedly!), there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience."

There is no exact release date or an estimate when "Darksiders 3" would be launched, but it may come out on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
