'Doctor Who' season 10 news: Eighth Doctor Paul McGann 'wouldn't mind' starring in spin-off; Peter Capaldi wants Susan back

Paul McGann, who starred as the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in "Doctor Who" twenty years ago, now says that he "wouldn't mind" reprising his role in a spin-off of the long-running British sci-fi series.
Since taking on the role of the Eighth Doctor in 1996, McGann has reprised the role in over 70 audio dramas and starred in the 2013 short "The Night of The Doctor." In an interview for Issue 498 of the Doctor Who Magazine, the actor was asked if he would consider playing the Eighth Doctor once more in a live-action spin-off, as fans have been requesting.
"I don't think I've ever said this, but I'll say it now... part of me wouldn't mind at all," McGann told the magazine, as quoted by Den of Geek.
But the actor gave some prerequisites.
"The material would have to work, like 'The Night of the Doctor' worked," he said. "That was clever and in-keeping. It would be pointless to come back and do something just for the sake of doing it. First and foremost, it would have to be a good acting job, to merit it," he added.
"It'll probably never happen, of course!" he teased. "It's always probably never going to happen! But certainly if it did, I would."
Meanwhile, current "Doctor Who" star Peter Capaldi has revealed which of the Doctor's companions he would bring back if he could choose from any the show has featured in its more than fifty years on television.
According to CultBox, Capaldi, who has played the role of the Twelfth Doctor since 2014, was at the Fan Expo Dallas earlier this month. During the event, he was quoted saying that the companion he wants to return is Susan, the Doctor's original companion.
"Her story wasn't finished," the actor explained.
Susan Foreman, who was also the Doctor's granddaughter, was played by Carole Ann Ford. At the time, the titular character was played by William Hartnell, the First Doctor. The last time Ford reprised her role as Susan was in the charity special "Dimensions in Time" in 1993.
The tenth season of "Doctor Who" will debut in 2017.
