'Game of Thrones' season 7 premiere date, update: Confirmed for a shorter run in summer 2017

"Game of Thrones" fans will have to learn to be patient if they want to catch all new episodes of the show because season 7 isn't coming until next year.
HBO confirmed already that "Game of Thrones" season 7 will premiere sometime in summer 2017. It's actually a little later than the usual air time of the series which typically falls in April. As noted by TV Guide, showrunner D.B Weiss divulged that they don't have a specific premiere date but they already know that the show will be delayed.
"We're starting a little bit later because, you know, the end of the season 'Winter is here,' and that means sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes anymore," Weiss stated.
He also shared that they are aiming to get some "grim grey weather" for the shooting of the next season. It's needed for the winter season in the show which can last many years and signify an impending doom for those who reside in northern Westeros.
The downside to the show airing late is that it wouldn't be able to make it to the 2017 Emmys since it's mandated in the rules that the chunk of a season's episodes must be aired by May 31. It seems like the show will have to wait for 2018 then to get an award.
Aside from the delayed premiere date of season 7, fans will also have to accept the fact that the next season will be shorter. The network announced that "Game of Thrones" season 7 as well as season 8 will have less number of episodes. From the usual 10 episodes, season 7 will only have seven episodes.
Production for the next season has not started yet but reports reveal that filming will take place in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland. Directors for season 7 will include Jeremy Podeswa, Mark Mylod, Alan Taylor and Matt Shakman.
To get more "Game of Thrones" updates and spoilers, fans will have to stay tuned.
