Google Pixel and Pixel XL release date, specs rumors: Phones expected to launch in October

The public may have been expecting a new set of Nexus smartphones this year but reports said that Google is going to release a new line instead.
According to reports, Google is gearing up towards the release of the Google Pixel, codenamed Sailfish; and its bigger counterpart, the Google Pixel XL, which is codenamed as Marlin. Though Google has not made any official announcements yet, leaks and rumors have surfaced ahead of time.
To be manufactured by HTC, the Pixel and Pixel XL sport different display sizes. The former comes with a 4.9-inch display while the latter features a 5.4-inch display. But even with the varying display sizes, it's said that both appear to be the same physically.
Both devices have also already been spotted on Geekbench and were certified. The two smartphones are said to carry the Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is currently considered as the go-to chip for high-end smartphones this year. However, there are some rumors circulating that it comes with the Snapdragon 821 chipset instead.
Nonetheless, sources said that the Pixel XL is packed with 4 GB of RAM. New information also revealed that out of the box, it runs on the Android 7.1 Nougat. This means that new features are incorporated into the model. It's also cited that under its hood, it has four cores clocked at 1.59GHz.
Moreover, reports detailed that the Google Pixel XL may come with Sony's IMX378 sensor for the rear camera. Meanwhile, the front cam could sport Sony's IMX179 sensor. Rumor has it that the bigger variant of the model will be coming with 12 or 13 megapixels while the front has an 8-megapixel selfie snapper.
It's also still unknown if the devices are really packed with dual cameras. Since this particular feature is quite popular among many high-end devices, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL could also get the same thing.
The devices may be launched sometime this October. As of now nothing is confirmed or official yet so it's best to take these reports with a pinch of salt.
