American political thriller "Homeland" season 6 still has a long way to go before it returns to the small screen. Fortunately, spoilers and updates have been revealed ahead of time, giving fans an inkling of what's to come.

For starters, the series is getting a new star. According to Variety, "Nurse Jackie" alum Dominic Fumusa has been added to the mix to play a recurring role. He will be playing the character an FBI Special Agent named Ray Conlin.

Not a lot is known about Fumusa's role as details have been kept secretly. Nonetheless, more updates are expected to be released soon when the show's premiere date is almost near.

Fumusa will be joining other newbies Elizabeth Marvel from "House of Cards" and "Prison Break" alum Robert Knepper. The former will play president-elect Elizabeth Keane while the latter will have a recurring role as Gen. Jamie McClendon, who is revealed to be the Department of Defense representative assigned to brief the lady boss and her team.

Meanwhile, fans could get disappointed this season as spoilers suggest that Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) may part ways. It has already been confirmed that Peter will stay alive despite the events from the last season finale. Carrie was last seen pulling off the life support of Peter, who was lying in the hospital bed due to a major stroke.

But season 6 will still have Peter and series co-creator Alex Gansa teased that fans will be seeing a very different and altered Peter. Moreover, Gansa said that Peter and Carrie will be constantly interacting but plenty of their conversations will be about the relationship issues they have faced over the years. Gansa hinted that there's definitely going to be "tension" between the two.

Fans will have to stay tuned for more spoilers and updates. "Homeland" season 6 will premiere on Jan. 15, 2017 at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
