Huawei Honor 8 release date, specs news 2016: Includes 5.2-inch display, 12MP camera, Android Marshmallow

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has finally announced their long-rumored device Honor 8. It is said to be a competition to the company's own latest flagship, the P9.
According to reports, the Honor 8 resembles the P9 in almost all dimensions. The differences though are the build quality and price, with the former being a lot cheaper compared to the latter. Just like the P9, Huawei's Honor 8 also comes with a 5.2-inch display with 1920 x 1080 LTPS LCD. It also has a Mali T880 graphics processing unit with various memory and storage variants.
Interested consumers can choose from 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB, and 4GB of RAM and 64 GB variants. As for its processor, the handset is said to carry a 1.8GHz octa-core Kirin 950 chipset. It will be pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 on top.
Measuring 145 x 71 x 7.45 (height x width x thickness), the device weighs 153 grams and is powered with a 3000mAh non-removable battery. It's also said to feature at the rear the same dual 12-megapixel camera system with f/2.2 aperture. On the front is an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture.
However, Digital Trends noted that although the camera specs of the Honor 8 are similar to those of the P9, the former is not incorporated with the Leica, which means the camera company has no input in terms of the software, tuning and lens development.
For the connectivity options, the device has a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, and dual SIM support. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner as well as USB Type-C port. Moreover, the upcoming smartphone comes in five color options which include Midnight Black, Sakura Pink, Pearl White, Sunrise Gold and Sapphire Blue.
The device will be available in China beginning July 19 and will have a starting price of CNY 1,999 or around $298.
