'Jessica Jones' season 2 news, spoilers: Director explains why heroine is 'super relatable'

Director Rosemary Rodriguez says that while Jessica Jones is a broken and flawed character, these traits only serve to make the antihero "super relatable" to viewers.
Fans and critics alike have applauded the complexities and uniqueness of the character, a hesitant superheroine trying to stay out of the spotlight. While other superheroes in the Marvel universe seem fine with taking on the role of savior and protector of the world's vulnerable humans, the titular character in "Jessica Jones," played by Krysten Ritter, is in direct opposition of some of the trappings of being a superhero.
While she does possess extraordinary powers, Jones actively avoids being recognized for her gifts. While she does try to do good, she is also damaged, emotionally fragile, and, uncommon for a lead female character, unconcerned about appearances.
According to Rodriguez, the uniqueness of the Netflix superheroine is one of the major reasons people are drawn to "Jessica Jones."
"She ultimately is this character that is super relatable and I think we get used to watching, or we get used to being fed female characters that are perfect in every way and even if they make a mistake here and there, they really go back to being perfect or they go back to being the good girl," she told Blastr. "And that wasn't the case with her."
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "Jessica Jones" creator and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg talked about crafting the feminist superheroine, explaining that she had intended for Jessica to stand out from similar characters on television.
"She was never going to play the honey pot," Rosenberg said about the character. "She was never going to put on the tight bandage dress and heels and go and seduce the guy she needs information from."
According to the "Jessica Jones" boss, Jones was never to be displayed in that manner because it wasn't true to her character.
Netflix has yet to announce the official release date for "Jessica Jones" season 2.
