'Mortal Kombat' reboot movie news 2016: Film in the works, but producer says it may take a while
A reboot movie of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise is currently in the works, but producer James Wan says that it may take a while before fans get to see the fighters on the big screen.

In an interview with IGN during the Television Critics Association press tour, Wan gives an update on the current production phase of the "Mortal Kombat" reboot. He says, "It's still cooking away. With that particular project, that's a really cool property that I loved growing up as a kid. Besides the game, even the movies as well, I kind of enjoyed them for what they are."
Wan also emphasized that he would like to take time on the project to make sure that it goes out right. He says, "I think that's more important than trying to rush through it and pump up something that no one likes."
Time may be the very thing that the movie needs. Most recently, DC's "Suicide Squad" was released with terrible reviews. Reports are saying that the reason for the film's mess of a story was because the director, David Ayer, was given only six weeks to produce a script before the production started shooting.
Then again, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" took its sweet time with the script, but it wasn't met with favorable reviews from the critics either.
"Mortal Kombat" was recently rebooted to a web series called "Mortal Kombat Legacy." The creator of the series, Kevin Tancharoen, was in talks to helm the reboot movie of the franchise, but he is reportedly no longer attached to the project.
As of now, the "Mortal Kombat" reboot is short one director, and it looks like fans will have to wait a couple more years before they can see the fighters of Netherrealm return to the big screen.
