'NCIS' season 14 spoilers, plot news: Agent Gibbs and other original characters to enjoy greater spotlight
"NCIS" season 14 will begin its post-Agent Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) era, which is still hard to believe for some. The show has reached unchartered territory, but fans won't have to worry.
Although DiNozzo is out, executive producer Gary Glasberg knows there are a lot more stories to tell in "NCIS" season 14 and beyond. He urges fans not to forget another character who was there from the start—Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon).

Harmon's character has been around long enough to serve as the mentor of DiNozzo, who actually worked hard to earn his respect. As long as he's present along with the "NCIS" clan, Glasberg has nothing to worry about the show's future.
"I still have Mark Harmon, and the family is still in place," Glasberg told Deadline. He added that DiNozzo's departure in "NCIS" season 14 allows him to hit the reset button on the show, which he admitted he is "super-eager" to do.
Glasberg, as he revealed to TV Line, also plans "NCIS" season 14 to see the show "move on and move forward... and get back to the lightness and the mystery that NCIS is known for."
The exciting bit is that he will do so with both old and new characters. In the season 13 finale, two new characters were introduced— FBI agent Tess Monroe (Sarah Clarke) and MI-6 agent Clayton Reeves (Duane Henry).
If Glasberg will push through with "NCIS" season 14 with his plan to mix the old and new, Clarke and Henry's characters will end up as series regulars.
This would allow for new perspectives and for Glasberg's team "to be able to switch it up and change things 14 seasons into a television show."
"NCIS" Season 14 will also feature the real-time healing process of Agent Fornell (Joe Spano), who was shot by Agent Kort (Troy Novacek), the same guy who blew up Ziva's (Cote de Pablo) house.
"NCIS" season 14 is expected to premiere this fall.
