Early last month, Nvidia announced that it would be releasing two new graphics cards aimed at high-performance gaming PCs. The pricier of the two, the GeForce GTX 1080, became available on May 27, while its little brother, the GeForce GTX 1070, hit store shelves on June 10.

The GTX 1070 is the second graphics card to be based on Nvidia's latest Pascal architecture, which the graphics specialist touts as "the world's most advanced GPU architecture." According to Ars Technica, which posted a review of the GTX 1070, the new GPU is faster than both the GTX 980 Ti and the Titan X, which Nvidia dubbed "the ultimate graphics card."

Incredibly, at just $449, the GTX 1070 is much more affordable than the GTX 980 Ti, which costs $650 above, and the Titan X, which is priced at $999.

Apart from its impressive speed and reasonable price, the GTX 1070 has also been praised for its excellent cooling performance, strong software and driver support, massive memory (double than that of the GTX 970), and overclocking ability.

The downsides to the new graphics card, however, include having to purchase a 1440p monitor to get the most out of it. Also, as TechPowerUp noted, the cooler runs into temperature limit and the fans don't turn off in idle.

The GTX 1070, like the GTX 1080, is being released in a Founders Edition, which features the same multifaceted aluminium shroud as the GTX 1080. The Founders Edition also has a blower-style design that vents hot air out of a PC case. Ars Technica notes that in its Founders Edition form, the GTX 1070 is remarkably cool and quiet while keeping the TDP (thermal design power) at 150W.

According to PC Advisor, gamers wanting to get the latest Nvidia Pascal card would likely go for the GTX 1070 over the GTX 1080 because of the latter's heftier price tag.

As of this writing, the GTX 1070 is sold out on the Nvidia website GeForce.com.
