'Pokémon Go' news 2016: Craze gets Pokéfans out of their seats and into the streets

\'Pokemon Go\' is the interactive new app from Nintendo which allows players to catch Pokémon in specific locations in their area. | Pokemon official site

Nintendo's interactive mobile app "Pokémon Go" has made fans celebrating all over, particularly in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. "Pokémon" fans who aren't in those countries may have to wait a little longer, though, before they get to catch Pokémon on their phones as well.

According to The Verge, "Pokemon Go" is basically the closest that fans can get to living in the actual Pokémon world. To those who aren't familiar with the original "Pokémon" game, the player goes around a fictional country collecting creatures called Pokémon. They can collect Pokémon and use the ones that they've captured to battle wild Pokémon common within an area. Players can also battle gym leaders for higher experience points and gain badges to show off their prowess.

"Pokémon Go" is basically the same thing, only instead of exploring the world in the game, players have to explore the actual world that they live in. With the use of their smartphones, players can detect different Pokémon which are in their area. Pokémon are also location-specific, so if players want to catch them all, they'll have to go to different places which are abundant with different types of Pokémon.

There are also different color-coded factions that players can join in the game, specifically: Red Team Valor, Yellow Team Instinct, and Blue Team Mystic. Being a member of a faction lets players train with other members of their team and have them level up their Pokémon. Leveling up will also give characters special items which they can use on their Pokémon. Players also should be careful because Pokémon can only be revived with items, as there are no Pokécenters to heal wounded Pokémon. There will be established Pokéstops where players can buy items for their Pokémon.

"Pokémon Go" is seeing huge commercial success as of now, with The Wall Street Journal reporting an increase in Nintendo's stock value ever since the launch.

Though the app may not be available in all countries yet, players in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand can download the "Pokémon Go" app in their respective play stores, as the game is available for iOS and Android.
