In less than a month after the release of "Pokemon Go," Legendary Entertainment has reportedly gained the rights to make a live-action Pokemon movie.

Variety reports that Legendary will be partnering up with the Pokemon Company to launch a film franchise for the Pocket Monsters, and they will kick it off with a movie called "Detective Pikachu."

Details about the production are kept under wraps as of now, but Legendary plans to kick-off production in 2017. Detective Pikachu will also be a brand new character in the Pokemon universe, and he will be introduced via a videogame in Japan.

No word yet if viewers will get to see a live-action version of the animated series' main protagonist, Ash Ketchum. Aside from the game, dozens of fans have been brought into the world of Pokemon through the animated series, so it would make sense that Ash would get a special cameo or at least a reference.

Vulture also reports that numerous studios have been after the Pokemon license for a while. Companies like Warner Bros., Sony, and Netflix have all been trying to get their hands on a Pokemon movie license only to have it snatched away by Legendary.

Legendary is not so unfamiliar with movies concerning monsters. They were the same studio responsible for the "Godzilla" reboot and they also produced the "Warcraft" movie. As of now, the studio is working on "Godzilla vs Kong," a movie that pits together two of cinema's most iconic giant monsters.

Nintendo is riding high on a cloud ever since the release of "Pokemon Go," and nobody is blaming them from milking as much as they can from the Pokemon license. Trends don't last forever, so Legendary better speed up its production before gamers go on to the next big thing.

"Pokemon Go" is now available for download on Android and iOS.
