'Pokemon Sun and Moon' news and updates: Did 'Pokemon Go' affect the development of latest installments?

The latest installments of the Pokémon franchise, "Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon" are some of the most awaited games that will be released this year. They will include brand new creatures and features as well. Recently, Junichi Matsuda, the producer of the new entries, has been interviewed by Game Informer and he shares his opinions regarding the mobile app, "Pokemon Go."
According to the reports of Gamespot, Games Informer interviewed the longtime producer of "Pokémon" titles for their December issue. Matsuda mentioned how surprised he was with the success of "Pokémon Go" and how it became such a huge phenomenon.
He said, "I really just kind of expected that a lot of people would play it, but as a smaller thing, where people would just enjoy going outside and catching some Pokemon. That was really actually where we put the focus of the game. We really wanted to kind of distill the experience of catching Pokemon,"
Matsuda was also asked if the success of "Pokemon Go" affected the development of "Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon." He explained "In terms of whether Go's success affected Sun & Moon? It didn't affect the development of the game, or any of the features, but I think it's going to affect it in a way that, more people, for example, maybe just learned about Pokemon, or came back to Pokemon through Go. I think the awareness of Pokemon, in general, is a lot higher, so that may affect Sun & Moon in a certain way."
However, there is a chance that the sales of the latest "Pokémon" entries will have higher sales due to the impact that "Pokémon Go" has made. The mobile app has also introduced the franchise to newcomers while old fans became familiar with it again.
Furthermore, it was also mentioned in reports that the iconic Splash move of Magikarp will finally be useful in the upcoming sequel. With the use of Z- Crystals, the useless move would be able to raise the attack of the user up to three times, but It still has no damage.
"Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" is expected to be released on Nov. 18 in North America while the European launch is on Nov. 23 exclusively for Nintendo 3DS.
