'Prison School' manga 2016 news: Spinoff to launch in August

Comedy/ecchi manga series "Prison School" is getting a spinoff manga called "The Vice President is Doing Her Best" ("Fukukaicho wa Ganbaru" in Japanese). The series will be helmed by the doujin circle, ReDrop who is famous for their work on "Natsu Koi" ("Summer Love").
As Anime News Network reported, Kodansha's Young Magazine announced the spinoff manga on Wednesday, July 6, revealing its launch date to be on Aug. 6. No news yet on who the main character is, but fans speculate that the upcoming series will focus on "Prison School's" poster girl, Meiko. Fans guess that it would be a prequel about Meiko's origins leading to her eventual transformation into the whip-wielding dominatrix that was introduced in the first volume of "Prison School."
Meanwhile, the current chapters of "Prison School" have Meiko with a reversed personality, and her dominatrix attitude was taken over by a klutzy shy-type girl. Meiko's shift in personality happened somewhere in the beginning of the Underground Student Council's imprisonment arc, and it has been quite a while since fans have seen her in her prime. The main plot point of the current arc is trying to "resurrect" her dominatrix persona, but recent attempts of the team have failed.
Fans on Reddit have gone vocal about their feelings for the latest arc, stating that the series has lost a bit of its skill in pacing. Several chapters have gone by with only a minute of the actual story transpiring. The discussion goes on to enumerate how skilled the manga's use of pace once was, but some are hopeful that the series creator, Akira Hiramoto, has something spectacular hidden up his sleeves.
The next chapter of "Prison School" (or "Kangoku Gakuen") will probably be released sometime this week. Recent uploads have been irregular, and they are all dependent on the series' translators. Fans should have to stay tuned then for more updates.
