The update that PlayStation 4 gamers have been waiting for has finally hit the console. Codenamed as Shingen, the version 4.0 was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

As detailed in the PlayStation blog, the update brought with it a new system UI and even added new features like folders. Aside from that, updates on the Quick Menu and Share Menu have been made, as well as in the Library which has been tremendously improved.

Sony added in the Quick Menu an enhanced Music section. This will now allow users to conveniently play, pause, skip, shuffle, repeat and even save songs. Users can also now control Spotify without having the need to open the app. Music listening experience is better as gamers can come across recommended playlists for the game that one is playing. Sony encourages everyone to follow PlayStation Music on Spotify to get the latest gaming playlists first.

It can also be noted that the interface is now simplified. With the addition of folders, browsing through endless pages or menus will no longer be a problem. Searching for something will be easier and more organized. Gamers can now classify options, files and videos. Moreover, the What's New and Content Info Screens have been refined to display more useful options faster.

Other than the music area, the PS4 update 4.0 also provided gamers an HDR support for their console, as detailed in Tech Times. Through the PS4 Pro, which will be released on Nov. 10, gamers can play a game in full 4K resolution. But with the current update, PS4 consoles can also play the games in HDR. The only essential requirement is a TV display that supports HDR technology.

And for those who are planning to pick up the PS4 Pro, the update 4.0 has brought along with it a method that allows easy transfer of data. Through wired LAN connection, one will be able to get all their data from the PS4 and move it to the PS4 Pro.
