'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, news: three playable characters to replace John Marston?

More details are beginning to come out about the highly anticipated release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" in 2017.
An insider who reportedly knows a lot about the upcoming installment of Rockstar Games' popular open-world, western action-adventure game told Express UK that there will be three playable characters in the upcoming game, just like "GTA 5" characters Trevor, Franklin, and Michael.
"It'll be just like Redemption. Single player story. open world, stranger events, gang hideouts and all that s**t," the insider stated. "Three playable characters of John's former gang, and John isn't one," he continued.
This could mean that the original "Red Dead Redemption" protagonist John Marston may have to sit out of the game's second installment. It could also prove that the upcoming game might be a prequel of "Red Dead Redemption" instead of a sequel.
According to a report from Games Radar, the upcoming game could feature a younger version of John Marston if it will really turn out to be a sequel. Based on the trailer for "Red Dead Redemption 2," the environment in the new game will be less advanced compared with the first game since it featured a running horse-drawn carriage and a vintage-looking local store.
But while the "Red Dead Redemption" fans are eager to get their hands on the new game, digital media strategist from Strategy Analytics Michael Goodman told We Write Things that the sales of the upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2" might have a hard time surpassing the success of its predecessor.
"I use [14 million] as sort of your baseline number, then it's plus or minus that number," Goodman stated. "If they do it right, then it'll be plus or minus that number. If they blow it, then obviously, they won't hit [14 million]. That's what I would think of in terms of what your market size is. I would be hard pressed to imagine a scenario where you're going to double what the original did," he went on to say.
The upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2" is also expected to come out sometime in Fall 2017.
