It's no secret that Samsung is cooking up something for its Galaxy note lineup. The question though is when it will possibly hit store shelves and what it would be called as.

Samsung users are expecting the Galaxy Note 6 to follow after the Note 5 that was released last year. However, according to rumors, the South Korean tech giant will skip a number.

The Verge detailed that there will be no Galaxy Note 6 but instead, it will be called as the Galaxy Note 7. There is no direct confirmation from Samsung yet but reports say that they will be skipping the Note 6 moniker in order to align the numbering between the Galaxy S and Galaxy notes series.

ET News noted that if the rumors turn out to be true, this will be the first time that the company will skip a number as the Galaxy Note series had started counting from one to five without leaving any numbers out. Fans will have to stay tuned then to find out if the next Note device will be indeed called Note 7.

As for the specs and features, there are no official details yet but the rumor mill is packed with information on what the device will possibly look like. According to GSM Arena, the Galaxy Note 7 is purported to feature a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1440p resolution. A Snapdragon 823 chipset is also expected along with a 6 GB of RAM. The rumored native storage is 64 GB or 128 GB.

The device is also said to be equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera and will be coming with an IP68 certification for water and dust protection. Leaks also claim that an iris scanner will be incorporated. If Samsung permits, the new handset may be unveiled sometime later this year. It may be coming out this September during the IFA expo.
