Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors 2016: 5.5-inch display, VR compatibility, Android Nougat

Samsung may have just released the Galaxy S7 but the rumor mill right now is already packed with speculations regarding the company's next flagship, the Galaxy S8. Obviously, nothing is official yet but rumors suggest that there will be several variants of the Galaxy S8.
According to reports, the South Korean tech giant will release five flagship devices: the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Edge, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 8 Edge, and the Galaxy X. The last one is rumored to be the company's first flexible device.
In terms of the specs and features, the Galaxy S8 is purported to be made available with a higher resolution and a screen size of 5.5 inches. There are other speculations claiming though that the new device would be coming with a bigger size with 4K resolution in order to accommodate virtual reality.
The smartphone is said to be equipped with Google's new VR platform, Daydream. However, rumors are rife that Samsung is working on their own standalone VR headset called Odyssey. But if Samsung does decide to make the screen bigger than the Galaxy S7 Edge screen, fans can expect to see a massive device. Samsung may find a way though to enlarge the Galaxy S8 without having the need to increase the chassis.
The expected featured operating system is the upcoming Android Nougat, which will match perfectly for the VR experience. GSM Arena also detailed that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge will come with UHD screen, which is actually higher in pixels resolution compared to the Oculus Rift.
As for the processor, rumors have it that it will run with an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 830 chipset. Other reports claim that it's going to be equipped with an Exynos chipset. So far, those are the only essential details that are available for now. Samsung fans can expect to get more information soon.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to debut at the Mobile World Congress event in February 2017.
