Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch launch date announced; rumored to come in three variants

Samsung is all set to introduce its follow-up for its smartwatch line to the world. Dubbed as the Gear S3, the successor of the 2015 Gear S2 will be arriving at the end of this month.
The Verge reports that the South Korean tech giant sent out invitations for a launch event at the IFA electronics show in Germany, and it's scheduled on Aug. 31. Although it did not directly mention which product is launching, it's apparent in the clue that they gave — a pair of watch hands and an imprint of the words "Gear" and "Talk about 3."
Forbes noted that it's actually the first time that Samsung will not unveil a Galaxy Note product at the IFA event this year. This time, their newest smartwatch model will be the highlight of the show while the Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled during an Unpacked event.
Samsung has not revealed a lot of details about the Gear S3, but the device will reportedly have three different variants: Classic, Frontier, and Explorer which is apparently designed for ruggedness and all sorts of outdoor activity.
A recent leak also suggested that the Gear S3 will be a round smartwatch with a Rolex-like design, metal bracelet, and fluted bezel. The device is also said to be codenamed Solis which means "sun" in Spanish. Moreover, it is speculated that the wristwatch will run with Tizen, and it will keep the same design and control features found in the Gear S2.
However, the Gear S3 may be getting an upgrade.
Since not a lot is revealed about the upcoming smartwatch, many are assuming that there will be several upgrades coming in order to contend with the upcoming Apple Watch 2.
Samsung may want to surpass Gear S2's dual-core processor that had a speed of 1.0 GHz and 512 MB of RAM because people nowadays are on the hunt for something that can offer more than just the typical functions of a smartwatch.
