The new season of BBC One's "Sherlock" will feature some scenes shot in Morocco.

According to CultBox, while production on the upcoming fourth season has already begun in Cardiff and the premiere episode has supposedly already been completed, the second episode will be filmed, at least partly, in Marrakesh, Morocco. The shift in the British-American crime drama's primary setting was first reported by The Huffington Post Morocco.

It is unclear if the Marrakesh scenes will only appear in episode 2 or if they will also be featured in other episodes, including the season 4 premiere.

Fans are currently speculating that Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) could be making their way to Morocco to take down a new baddie, which may be the season 4 main villain played by "Captain America: The First Avenger" actor Toby Jones.

Jones' "Sherlock" character has yet to be named, but co-creator and executive producer Steven Moffat said in May, as quoted by Deadline, that the actor will be "bringing to life one of [Sir Arthur Conan] Doyle''s finest villains."

Apart from the exact identity of this new villain, it is also unclear what scheme he will be planning and/or what he could be doing in Morocco. While Moffat has said that the villain comes from Doyle's written work, not everything in the "Sherlock" TV adaptation comes from the source material. The Moroccan setting, for example, is not from Doyle's books.

While the BBC has yet to make any official announcements about the release date of the show's much-anticipated fourth season, Freeman has previously divulged some information about the upcoming episodes. In a recent appearance on "The Graham Norton Show," Freeman said, as quoted by Metro, "We are back filming now and the three shows will, I imagine, be out around Christmas."

"Sherlock" season 4 is expected to air by Christmas 2016 in the U.K. This may be followed by a New Year's Eve premiere in the U.S.
