'Sons of Anarchy' news 2016: Malayans MC spin-off series almost coming; Charlie Hunnam less likely to return in prequel
American crime drama television series "Sons of Anarchy" has been off the small screen for a while now. With its last episode dated back in December 2014, fans hoped that there will be more of the motorcycle club life. Lucky for them, creator Kurt Sutter promised to bring its spin-off series, "Malayans MC," which is now almost ready to premiere.

Sutter previously teased on Twitter a photo of Emilio Rivera which came with the caption, "The return is near." Fans are already excited because instead of focusing on the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original (SAMCRO), the show will be following the journey of the group's biggest rival, the Mayans Motorcycle Club.
Deadline noted that the series is described by the network as a "dark, visceral family drama" that will show events through the perspective of the Latinos in America. And in order to really bring out in the show a realistic take on the Latino traditions and culture, Sutter tapped Elgin James to work with him and develop a script.
"I wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice," Sutter said. "Because I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice." As of now, the premiere date is still uncertain. But given that Sutter has already hinted that its arrival is near, the show is bound to start soon.
Meanwhile, fans are still wondering about the fate of the prequel which is said to be titled as "The First 9." Reports said that it will center on the younger years of protagonist Jax Teller, played by Charlie Hunnam. Jax may be presently dead but since the prequel is said to go back in time, it will be showing his early days in the club, perhaps even in his teenage years.
The prequel is still far away from reality though as reports stated that Hunnam will no longer return to do the role. Apparently, Hunnam and Sutter have shared a difficult relationship which may be the reason why the actor no longer wants to take the part. Fans will have to stay tuned to find out if the prequel will ever make its way to the television or not.
