Trekkies are eagerly awaiting more news about the upcoming series "Star Trek: Discovery," and it's been revealed that the series is set before the original "Star Trek;" which means that the show's storyline will be developing way before Kirk, Spock, and McCoy even set foot on the Enterprise.

According to AICN, the name of the ship revealed in the trailer is a big clue to the show's timeline. During an interview with the said site, "Star Trek: Discovery" showrunner Bryan Fuller said, "There's a big clue in the number of the ship [NCC-1031] that indicates when we're set." Seeing that the Enterprise's registry number is NCC-1701, viewers can expect that the ship in the upcoming show will be a far cry from the more advanced Starship Enterprise.

This won't be the first "Star Trek" show that is a prequel to the original. "Star Trek: Enterprise" was set before the original series' timeline as well. Geek Tyrant guesses that "Discovery's" timeline will be somewhere after "Enterprise" but before "The Original Series."

With "Star Trek Beyond" proving to be a critical success, the Trekkies have a lot to be happy about with the new material that's being pumped out. It would be interesting if the show could link itself to the current "Star Trek" movie timeline that J.J. Abrams started.

Fuller is proving to be a very busy man these days. Not only is he running "Star Trek: Discovery," but he's also busy producing the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman's bestselling novel, "American Gods." That series will focus on a character named Shadow Moon who has found himself in a war between the Old Gods (Odin, Horus, Anansi) and the New Gods (technology, media, the world).

Fuller promises to reveal more details about the show on Aug. 10 during the "Star Trek" panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
