'Star Wars: Episode VIII' updates: Mark Hamill debunks fan theory

During a charity event in London last weekend, Mark Hamill made a comment that led many fans to believe that "Star Wars: Episode VIII" would have Luke Skywalker, hero of the original trilogy, die.
Slash Film reports that during the event, Hamill told the audience, "I finish 'Episode VIII,' and then I'm out of work." The quote was interpreted by fans as Hamill's way of saying that he will not be back for the next movie, but Hamill then took to Twitter to ease the fans' speculations. He tweeted:
Speculations on Luke's death are not so uncommon. Most recently, the director of "Episode VIII," Rian Johnson, posted an image of Luke Skywalker's Jedi robes on the set of the movie with the caption, "In the home stretch." Fans took this as a call back to what happened to Obi-Wan Kenobi when he was killed in "A New Hope;" the only thing left of Old Ben were his old Jedi robes. Could this mean that Luke would be killed off in this movie and the robe is the only thing he will leave behind? Nobody can ever know for sure until the movie comes out.
Fans can only wait until December 2017 to find out what really happens to the Star Wars heroes, old and new. In the meantime, they can appease their thirst for "Star Wars" with Gareth Edwards' movie, "Star Wars: Rogue One," a prequel to "A New Hope" which tells the story of new characters who are on a mission to retrieve the plans of the Empire's brand new superweapon, The Death Star. It stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, and Alan Tudyk, among others. "Rogue One" will come out in December this year.
