'Star Wars' prequel movie news update: Disney reportedly planning a trilogy featuring young Han Solo

Disney officially announced that Alden Ehrenreich ("Hail, Caesar!") will be playing a young Han Solo back during the Star Wars Celebration in London, but now there have been reports that the studio is actually planning on making a trilogy of young Han Solo movies.
According to New York Daily News, Ehrenreich has signed on for three "Star Wars" movies, and Disney is planning on making "Star Wars" spin-off films where Han Solo is the central character.
The publication quoted an insider as saying, "Given that Han's early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters."
The current script for the so-called "Star Wars" prequel is being penned by original "Star Wars" trilogy writer Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jake. The movie is set to release in May 2018, and it will be directed by "The Lego Movie" helmers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
As reported by Slash Film, Kasdan's Han Solo script has been described by "The Force Awakens" concept artist Iain McCaig as "by far the best Star Wars script." Some people though might actually take this description with a grain of salt as the opinion comes from somebody within the production, which means it could be very close to bias.
Other fans speculated that the three-picture deal that Ehrenreich has signed on with Disney means having him appear in one young Han Solo-standalone, then making cameos in other "Star Wars" spin-off films. The upcoming "Star Wars" movie, "Rogue One," is rumored to have a cameo from Ehrenreich as the famous space smuggler, but it has yet to be confirmed.
The "Young Han Solo" movie is set to come out May of 2018.
