'Star Wars: Rogue One' release date, plot spoilers news: Han Solo theory shot down by director, Lucasfilm president

"Star Wars" fans had been speculating on the appearance of Han Solo in "Star Wars: Rogue One" even before Alden Ehrenreich was cast as the dashing space smuggler, but director Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy have recently shot those rumors down.
In an interview with Extra TV, Edwards clarified that Han Solo will not appear in the upcoming "Star Wars" prequel. And as if that isn't enough, Kennedy herself also confirmed that there will be no appearance from Ehrenreich's Han Solo in "Rogue One."
Ehrenreich currently has a three-picture deal with Disney, and fans speculate that "Rogue One" would be one of those three pictures. Fans will probably have to wait till 2019 to see Ehrenreich's version of the "scruffy-looking nerf herder," but till then, fans will just have to speculate.
Rumors that Hayden Christensen would be reprising his role as Darth Vader were also floating around, but both Edwards and Kennedy also confirmed that fans will not be seeing Christensen under Vader's mask. Vader's body will be played by "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Spencer Wildling (he plays the guard who steals Peter Quill's walkman). James Earl Jones will also be returning to voice the right hand of the Emperor.
Some fans may be thinking that it could be a lie to catch them by surprise when they watch the movie, but JJ Abrams pulled the same stunt when he outright lied about Benedict Cumberbatch's real identity as Khan for "Star Trek: Into Darkness," and fans were not happy with the reveal. Surely Kennedy learned about the backlash that comes with lying to the fans; but then again, Abrams was hiding the identity of the main antagonist, a little lie about Han Solo's cameo wouldn't hurt anybody.
"Star Wars: Rogue One" will be hitting theaters this Dec. 16, 2016.
