The long-awaited downloadable content (DLC) for the story mode for 'Street Fighter V' has arrived, and fans of the franchise could not be happier. With new characters and costumes, and a story that falls as a backdrop for the game's colorful fighters, "Street Fighter V: A Shadow Falls" is finally making up for the disappointment that it was initially received with — or has it?

At the onset, "Street Fighter V" was met with bad reviews for being "incomplete." The new V-system did allow for new opportunities with tactics and gameplay, but the lack of an arcade mode, or even the option to battle the computer made players feel cheated; the game did not have much to offer when it came to single-player mode.

The new DLC was said to remedy the so-called problem by adding in a story mode, and on top of that, more characters that were not available upon the initial release are now playable. There are new costumes as well as two new stages for players to fight in, but does the DLC hold up?

According to a review from Destructoid, "A Shadow Falls" falls short on delivering a more intriguing story. Possible attempts to mimic NetherRealm Studios' success with the "Mortal Kombat" and "Injustice: Gods Among Us" were present, but it seems that "Street Fighter V" missed the entire point in what made those stories cohesive.

With the NetherRealm games, players got to use one character in subsequent battles within the game, giving time for players to familiarize with each character's special moves and combos. With "Street Fighter V," players have to switch characters constantly, and players are not given the proper time to familiarize themselves with each one's skill set. The story also seems to come up with highly unlikely ways to get two characters to fight.

In the end, what truly matters is the playability of the game, which is said to be a huge improvement. The Street Fighter video games are not known for their compelling stories but more for their memorable characters and (pioneering) classic fighting game mechanics. Fans will be enjoying this game for some time, and the possibility of more DLCs in the future is no stretch.

The DLC "Street Fighter V: A Shadow Falls" is available for free download for any person who owns the game.
