'Suicide Squad' updates: What to expect in this year's Comic-Con

Last June 24, director David Ayer went to Twitter and teased fans about the wrapping of post-production for his upcoming movie, "Suicide Squad."
In his post, Ayer said that the movie "is a beast," and many people are looking to the movie as a way to "redeem" the DC Cinematic Universe after the underwhelming performance of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
This coming Comic-Con, fans can expect "Suicide Squad" to have a major presence. Other than the fact that there will be an appearance of major cast members (as to who will appear specifically, the details are kept secret), the Hard Rock Hotel in the city's Gaslamp Quarter will be transformed into the "Belle Reeve Penitentiary," a fictional prison in the DCCU where the members of the Squad were initially imprisoned. Additionally, there will also be Harley Quinn's tattoo parlor — an attraction that first appeared at the South by Southwest (SXSW) 2016 in March — where fans can have temporary tattoos that each stood for different members of the squad. There is also a virtual reality experience that lets fans act out a fight scene in the movie alongside members of the Squad.
What's more, DC has also launched a fan contest called Squad Up! Thursday. For the contest, fans are invited to cosplay different members of the Squad (including The Joker) for a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to the San Diego Comic-Con. There will be 11 different winnersÂ, representing one of each character in the film.
Promotion for the movie has never been more colorful, seeing as they are trying to steer away from the dour tone that was set by "Batman v Superman," fans can expect something quite different from what they've seen from the DCCU so far.
Comic-Con is set to run at the San Diego Convention Center this coming July 21-24, and "Suicide Squad" is set to release in theaters on Aug. 5.
