"Cougar Town" alum Ian Gomez is boarding "Supergirl" season 2 in the recurring role of Snapper Carr.

Entertainment Weekly, which broke the news, described Snapper as a headstrong journalist who was appointed by Cat (Calista Flockhart) as the new editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine.

According to TVLine, Snapper is a firm believer in the free press and in journalistic integrity, things which he believes have been lost in the age of social media. The character is also said to be a brutally frank boss who takes a no-holds barred approach with his colleagues.

Snapper will reportedly push Kara (Melissa Benoist) in surprising ways. TVLine noted that he will be both a mentor and an adversary to the junior reporters, Kara included.

In the DC Comics, Snapper was a civilian who appeared in the "Justice League" stories.

Gomez, who also previously appeared in the drama series "Felicity" and in the "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" films, will first appear in the second episode of "Supergirl" season 2.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that "The Family" grad Floriana Lima will be joining the cast of "Supergirl" in the series regular role of Maggie Sawyer.

Maggie is a lesbian character in the "Superman" titles who was once involved with Batwoman.

In "Supergirl," Maggie is a detective with the National City Police Department.

Gomez and Lima join a growing list of new cast members who will be portraying popular DC Comics characters. Last month, "Teen Wolf" actor Tyler Hoechlin was cast in the role of Superman while former "Wonder Woman" actress Lynda Carter was confirmed to be playing the President of the United States.

In a recent interview with Moviefone, Hoechlin spoke about his "Supergirl" casting.

"It's definitely incredibly humbling and flattering to even be given the chance to do it," he said. "And I think, I'm just going to do as much as I can to see how to bring the true spirit of the character to the show."

"I'm excited to just kind of look at it from doing it with a clean slate and not trying to replicate or duplicate anything that's been done, but just being honest to the story and how they're writing him," he added.

"Supergirl" season 2 debuts Oct. 10 on The CW.
