'Supernatural' season 12 premiere: Show returns Oct. 13 with revelation, familiar face

When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) return in "Supernatural" season 12 for a new round of monsters and mayhem, accompanying them is their once-dead mother, Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith).
Amara (Emily Swallow) has shown her ability and willingness to destroy the living, but the final scenes of the previous season of "Supernatural" showed she can do the opposite as well.
The Darkness thanked the Winchester brothers for all their help by restoring to life their beloved mother, who was killed when Sam and Dean were young. "Supernatural" season 12 will center on her existence.
Wearing the same nightgown she had on when she was killed way back in 1983, Mary was found by Dean lost and confused as she tries to figure out where she is.
It remains a mystery what Mary's return means for the brothers in "Supernatural" season 12 or how it will change the course of things, but this certainly sets the stage for a tearful family reunion.
There's one problem, though. Sam appears to have been shot by a mysterious woman named Lady Toni Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore), a member of a group called Men of Letters who have been watching the hunters. They are expected to be the big bad in "Supernatural" season 12.
After sending away Castiel (Misha Collins) to nowhere and criticizing Sam and Dean for "doing more harm than good," she pulled the trigger on Sam as he approached to confront and stop her.
While it is highly likely that Sam is alive, he will certainly in serious trouble. Lady Bevell herself said that she was there to take Sam in, and odds are the hunter is alive but is now a prisoner of the Men of Letters in "Supernatural" season 12.
With regards to Chuck (Rob Benedict) and Amara's return on the show, it appears that the brother and sister will spend a great deal of time catching up.
"Supernatural" season 12 premieres on Oct. 13 on The CW. The timeslot was moved from Wednesdays to Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT right after "Legends of Tomorrow."
