'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date news update: Bethesda to release 'Skyrim' remaster instead

Fans have been waiting to get their hands on "The Elder Scrolls 6" for years now, but a new report suggests this may not happen this year and that gamers will have to wait a bit longer.

The latest buzz about the next "The Elder Scrolls" game is that developer Bethesda Softworks will simply release a remastered version of "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim," the most recent installment of the hit action role-playing open world fantasy that was released in 2011.

According to industry insider Shinobi602, Bethesda will make the announcement about a remaster "of sorts... for something" via Eurogamer at the studio's presentation in the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016.

After his remark, it was followed by a report by GamePro, who claimed this remaster has to be "Skyrim." NeoGAF user, Enter the Dragon Punch, then added fuel to the fire by remarking that GamePro's report actually speaks the truth.

The tipster claimed that "it's real" and that "The Elder Scrolls" game's jump to current-generation consoles will include mods, all downloadable content (DLC) released for the game and "improved visuals."

The addition of mods isn't shocking, especially since Bethesda has been working hard on those. It recently released mods on the Xbox One version of "Fallout 4" and is working to reach the PlayStation 4 version. Then there's the fact that mods are integral part of "Skyrim" on PC.

Although there's no concrete information given regarding Bethesda's purported plan to ditch "The Elder Scrolls 6" for a "Skyrim" remaster, the claims of both Shinobi602 and Enter the Dragon Punch are given credence because of their involvement in an authentic leak of "Dead Rising 4."

"The Elder Scrolls 6" is one of the most anticipated unannounced games for this year. Now that there's a more tangible possibility that it might not be here soon could be devastating to fans who have been waiting for it.

If a "Skyrim" remaster will be the center of Bethesda's presentation at E3, fans hope that a hint about "The Elder Scrolls 6" will at least still be revealed at the convention.
