'The Flash' season 3 release date, latest news: Kevin Smith returns; talks bringing Onomatopoeia to 'Arrow'
Writer and director Kevin Smith revealed in a recent interview that he will be back to direct an episode of "The Flash" in the upcoming third season. He also talked about the "Arrow" series, and the possibility of directing an episode centered around a villain that he created for the "Green Arrow" comics, Onomatopoeia.

In an interview with Den of Geek, the filmmaker shared, "I know I'm going back to The Flash, first week of September, to direct episode 7 of season 3." He went on to say that he hasn't heard any word from the showrunners of "Arrow," but that he would be excited to work on an episode with Onomatopoeia. The next season of "Arrow," however, is going to focus instead on characters like Wild Dog and Vigilante.
During Kevin Smith's writing stint for the "Green Arrow" comics, he created the villain known as Onomatopoeia, a serial killer who targets non-superpowered heroes and who does so while saying the sounds of his weapons out loud. He would shoot a gun and say "Blam!" or break an arrow in half and say "snap." He has no known powers, but he has proven to be a formidable opponent to both Batman and Green Arrow, once teaming up with the Joker, and mortally wounding him to put Batman in a moral corner.
The last "Flash" episode that Kevin Smith directed, "The Runaway Dinosaur," gained praise as one of the best episodes of the previous season, with critics saying that Smith was able to capture pure emotional moments that previous episodes could not. The episode has Barry Allen gaining his powers back and escaping the Speed Force.
"The Flash" season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m on The CW. On the other hand, "Arrow" season 5 is premiering Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. as well on the same network.
