The season 3 premiere of TNT's post-apocalyptic action/drama "The Last Ship," which was originally scheduled for Sunday, June 12, will now air on Sunday, June 19, at 9 p.m. ET.

The much-anticipated season 3 opener was delayed following last weekend's mass shooting.

In the early hours of Sunday, a lone gunman opened fire at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando. He killed 49 people and injured at least 53 others before being fatally shot in a gunfight with police officers.

Authorities have since identified the victims of the massacre. They range in age from 18 to 50 years old.

Following the tragedy, the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States, TNT decided to pull the season 3 premiere of "The Last Ship" from its Sunday night schedule. Various media outlets reported that this was because a scene in the premiere episode shows gunmen opening fire in a Vietnamese nightclub, killing many.

This scene reportedly comes before the abduction of several people, a sequence that paves the way for an important season 3 storyline.

"As a result of the shootings this weekend in Orlando, [Sunday]'s originally scheduled season premiere of 'The Last Ship' has been postponed," TNT announced in a statement. "Our hearts are with the victims and their families."

"The Last Ship" executive producer Hank Steinberg broke down the season 3 plot in a recent interview with Buddy TV.

"In season 3, the storyline is split between the action in Asia and the Presidency in the new White House in St. Louis," he said. "The drama is between geo-political issues of how to hold the country together and the question of how many resources should we give to saving the rest of the world when America is stretched very thin and trying to repair itself."

Because the season 3 premiere of "The Last Ship" will run for two hours, the season 3 premiere of "Murder in the First," which was originally slated for Sunday evening, will be moved to next Sunday, June 26, at 10 p.m. ET.
